Scholarship Recipients

2024-2025 Scholarship Awardees

The IAEM Scholarship Commission awarded scholarships to four students in emergency management, disaster management and related programs for the 2024-2025 school year. Congratulations to this year’s IAEM Scholarship recipients.

 

 

2024-2025 Scholarship Recipient 

Tamara Doss is working toward a DSc. in Emergency Management at Jacksonville State University in Jacksonville, Alabama. She plans to graduate in 2027. Tamara is the deputy director of the Tuscaloosa County Emergency Management Agency (TCEMA). “Her work has not only benefited the agency but has had a profound impact on the safety and well-being of the community,” wrote TCEMA Director Nick Lolley. Tamara was instrumental in TCEMA being awarded the Alabama Association of Emergency Managers’ 2021-2022 Response Program of the Year, Large County, Award for its COVID-19 response. She was awarded a $5,000 IAEM Full-Time Graduate Student Scholarship.
Jason Fuller is earning an Ed.D. in Leadership Studies with a concentration in Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Management at Louisiana State University, Shreveport. He is the seventh awardee of the Samuel Henry Prince IAEM Scholarship for part-time graduate students partially funded by IAEM-Canada. He is a senior emergency management specialist (operations) for New Hanover County, North Carolina, and he plans to graduate in 2027. Before moving to emergency management, Jason was a Battalion Chief at Leland Fire/Rescue. He has many certifications, including Chief Fire Officer Designation, Fire Officer 3, Fire Instructor 2, and National Registry Paramedic NC Paramedic and Paramedic Instructure Level 2. Jason holds an MPA from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington. He received a $2,500 IAEM Part-time Graduate Student Scholarship.
Julia Harvey completed an MSc in Disaster Risk Reduction and Resilience and began the Ph.D. program in the same subject at the University of Canterbury in Christchurch, New Zealand. Her proposed Ph.D. focus is on integrating different earthquake multi-hazards to understand the potential impacts to critical infrastructure in Wellington, the capital city of Aotearoa New Zealand, from various plausible earthquake scenarios. In 2023, Julia received the Sir Julius von Haast Prize for Disaster, Risk, and Resilience, presented to the top-performing disaster, risk, and resilience student at the University of Canterbury. She was awarded a $4,000 IAEM Full-Time Graduate Student Scholarship.
Tatum Navrkal, the eight awardee of the Robert C. Bohlmann, CEM, Scholarship for Service in Emergency Management, is earning a B.S. in Emergency Management with a minor in both Aviation and Fire Service Management at the University of Nebraska at Omaha. He will graduate in December 2024. He joined his local volunteer fire department in Sergeant Bluff, Iowa, when he was 16. While in high school, he earned Firefighter 1, HazMat Operations, and Emergency Medical Technician certifications. He has interned at Jet Linx, a Part 135 charter airline, reviewing the safety management system, evaluating the emergency response program, conducting safety risk management, and implementing Line Operations Safety Assessments. Tatum plans to pursue a master’s degree in emergency management. He was awarded a $5,000 IAEM Undergraduate Student Scholarship.
